Pre-Conference Workshop

A Professionally Rewarding Experience

Sleep Disorders and Pain Management

Thursday, April 6, 2017

In clinical practice, pain management and sleep dysregulation are among the most chronic, common complaints faced by providers. While the efficacy and safety issues of opioids have been consistently highlighted in recent medical literature, a host of studies have demonstrated that opioids are not the optimal treatment approach for chronic non-malignant pain. This workshop will deliver the latest regulatory updates on opioid prescribing, in addition to a review and assessment of the biochemistry and pathophysiology of the pain patient in a functional model. Instructors will discuss new tools utilized to evaluate and treat the pain patient, and review detoxification strategies.

Join us in our discussion of cutting-edge sleep and pain treatments, and how they can effectively be delivered through a functional and comprehensive approach.

 Learning Objectives

  • Examine pain management cases and link the presentation to underlying physiologic processes in a functional medicine approach

  • Review the neuro-endocrine-immune dysregulation caused by opiods and chronic pain

  • List the physiological changes found in the fibromyalgia patient and outline new and innovative treatment approaches

  • Identify neuromodulatory effects of endogenous hormones

  • Compare neurobiology and treatments of various sleep disorders
